Overview

Success in this position depends on visible leadership, disciplined execution, and the ability to communicate clearly across Engineering, Operations, Technical, and Commercial functions. The site operates in a unionised environment and requires a Site Engineering Manager who can build trust, drive standards, and embed long-term engineering excellence.

The Role

As Site Engineering Manager, you will:
  • Drive efficiency improvements.
  • Oversee reliability and preventative maintenance.
  • Upkeep high engineering standards and discipline.
  • Be the most senior engineering voice on site, providing clear communication to the Site General Manager.
  • Direct line management of: Maintenance Manager, Engineering Managers, Reliability Engineers, Engineering shift teams (4 on / 4 off).
  • Provide senior engineering leadership for major CAPEX projects including a £45m+ site upgrade programme.
  • Supporting ongoing recovery and stability following historic industrial relations challenges.
  • Maintaining regular senior-level engagement outside of standard weekday operations to ensure continuity and site stability.

The Candidate

The successful candidate will be an experienced Site Engineering Manager with strong food manufacturing credentials and the gravitas to operate effectively at Site Leadership Team level.

Essential experience and attributes include:
  • Proven experience as an Engineering Manager within food manufacturing; bakery or fresh food environments are strongly preferred
  • Strong background in production engineering rather than facilities or estates
  • Demonstrated experience delivering engineering performance in high-CAPEX, live factory settings
  • Credibility at shop-floor level, with a clear trade or technical foundation
  • Confidence in customer-facing and cross-functional conversations where engineering constraints impact supply or service
  • Calm, pragmatic leadership style with the ability to rebuild trust and break down functional silos
  • Strong stakeholder management skills across Operations, Technical, Commercial, and external partners
  • Comfortable operating in a unionised environment
